NEWTON, NJ – The Board of Trustees of Sussex County Community College announced the appointment Dr. Jon Connolly as its new president. Connolly comes from a background that includes leading community colleges in Wyoming.
Connolly served most recently as Vice-President and Academic Dean of Kennebec Valley Community College in Maine. He was the Interim President of Sheridan and Gillette Colleges of Northern Wyoming community college district. He also taught Biology at the University of Maine, Allegheny College in Pennsylvania and Colby College in Maine.
At Colby College Connolly earned his undergraduate degree in biology. He earned his Master’s in Forest Science from Yale University, where he served as a teaching assistant and guest lecturer.
Connolly received his Ph.D in Biological Sciences from the University of Maine.
Judge Lorraine Parker, Board of Trustees Chair, said in a statement, “The Board of Trustees extends its sincerest thanks to the Presidential Search Committee, consisting of faculty, staff, administrators, members of the Board of Trustees and members of the community at large, and especially to the Committee Chair, Dr. Rosalie Lamonte.
"The members of the Search Committee worked hard to narrow the field from 46 applicants to the final five candidates, each of whom visited the campus for two days during the past two weeks for interviews with constituent groups, and the Board. We thank all who participated in the constituent group interviews, especially the members of the community, the Freeholders and Senator Oroho.”
The trustees used the search consultants Liz Rocklin and Jesse Thompson of RH Perry & Associates to help fill the position.
Connolly was born and raised in Morris County. He is expected to return to New Jersey to begin as the sixth President of SCCC at the beginning of November.
