SPARTA, NJ – A Sparta man faces DWI charges after leaving the scene of a one-car accident on Glen Road. Sparta Police Cpl. Dan Elig went to the area of Glen Road where the accident was reported on May 4 around 12:18 a.m. according to police.
The mangled guardrail and even skid marks are still visible on Glen Road south of Edison Road.
When he got to the scene of the accident Elig followed a trail of vehicle fluids up Glen Road and onto Water’s Edge and finally to a home on Water’s Edge according to police.
Elig saw a red 2006 Porsche parked in the driveway with extensive front end damage. Elig went to speak with the owner, Amarnath Kamath, police report.
The 44-year-old Sparta resident told Elig that he had driven the car but did not know about in an accident. Elig suspected Kamath was under the influence of alcohol and had Kamath do field sobriety tests.
Kamath was taken into custody and transported to Sparta police department headquarters for processing and breath testing.
Kamath was charged with DWI, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to report an accident, reckless driving, failure to maintain lane, and unsafe vehicle. He was released several hours later to a sober adult pending a court date.
