SPARTA, NJ – A unlicensed Wantage man is facing a number of charges stemming from a traffic stop.  On February 8 around 8 p.m. Officer Matthew Pletcher stopped Anthony Castellano, 19 for a registration violation, police said.

Pletcher asked Castellanos about the smell of marijuana in the car.  Castellanos denied having pot in the car admitted to having drug paraphernalia, police said.

When the car was searched, the officer found a plastic bag of Xanax pills for which neither Castellanos nor passenger Branson Walsh, 18, did not have a prescription, police said.

Police also found a marijuana “bong,” in the car, police said.

Both Walsh and Castellanos were taken into custody and brought to the Sparta Police Department Headquarters for processing. 

Castellanos was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle, failure to display documents, fictions plates, unlicensed driver.

Walsh was charged with possession of controlled dangerous substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. 

Both Wantage residents were given court dates and released.
