SPARTA, NJ – A man from Port Jervis, New York was arrested on drug charges after being stopped for a missing license plate.  On December 12 around 1:30 a.m. Sparta Police Officer Christopher Favaro stopped a silver Toyota Camry on Route 15, driven by David Formisano, 18, police report.

Favaro smelled marijuana when speaking with Formisano, despite the driver’s effort to cover the smell with strawberry air freshener.  Sgt. Fraser provided assistance as the driver and passenger got out of the car, police report.

Formisano admitted he had smoked marijuana and sprayed the air freshener.  Formisano also said the marijuana in his back pack and claimed ownership of it. The bag backpack had a glass jar and a ziplock bag both containing marijuana and two packs of rolling papers, police say.

Formisano was taken into custody and brought to the Sparta Police Department headquarters.  He was charged with possession of under 50 grams of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, maintenance of lamps, improper display and controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle.
