SPARTA, NJ –  A Newfoundland man is facing multiple drug charges after losing control of his car on Route 15. On June 4 around 6:14 p.m. Sparta Police Officer Steve Guido went to Sparta Junction responding to the report of a car accident, according to police.

A 2003 Volvo, driven by George Medina had hit the curb and crashed into the guide rail, becoming disabled.  When the 18-year-old was getting his paperwork Guido smelled marijuana.  Medina admitted to having marijuana, according to police.

Medina and his car were searched.  Guido found a plastic bag containing marijuana, a grinder and a pack of rolling papers in Medina’s pocket. Guido found a psilocybin mushroom in the car and Medina admitted it was his, police report.

Medina was taken into custody and brought to Sparta Police Department headquarters for processing.  He was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of under 50 grams of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. 

Medina was released pending a court date.
