SPARTA, NJ – A Staten Island, New York woman is facing drug charges after being stopped for speeding 76 MPH in a 55 MPH zone on Route 15 north. On June 23 around midnight, Police Officer Erick Finley stopped Karen Batalitzky, 28 in her gray Jeep Compass, police report.
When speaking with the Batalitzky, Finley smelled marijuana in the car. The driver said she has smoked marijuana earlier but that there was no pot in the car, police said.
Finley, with the assistance of other Sparta officers searched the car and found marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Batalitzky was taken into custody and brought to Sparta Police Department headquarters, police report.
Batalitzky was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle and speeding. She was released with a court date.
