SPARTA, NJ – After being stopped for speeding, a Newton man was taken into custody for drunk driving.  On November 22 around 3 a.m. Sparta Police Officer Kurt Morris was conducting radar on Route 15 north when he saw a 2015 Ford pickup driving too fast, according to a police report.

PO Morris stopped Newton resident David Riser, the driver of the pickup.  After speaking with Riser, PO Morris suspected Riser might be under the influence of alcohol.   PO Morris conducted a series of Field Sobriety tests and then arrested Riser for DWI.

Riser was transported to Sparta Police Department headquarters for processing and breath testing.
