SPARTA, NJ – It was a full house for the Sparta Kiwanis Casino Night.  More than 165 people attended the 10th annual event at the Sparta Fire House that raised over $20,000.

All of the proceeds of the event go back to the community.  They support scholarships, help meet the needs of children and their families, support senior citizens and veterans and help to enhance the quality of life in Sparta and the surrounding area, according to Frank Cannistra Kiwanis Communications Chair. 

In addition to the attendees, 57 sponsors each contributed between $100 and $1000, more than 115 merchants and individuals contributed over $15,000 in prizes awarded at the end of the evening.

Key sponsors included; Advisors Mortgage Group, Advanced Spinal Care and Assoc, Castco Associates LLC, Harte Orthodontics, Lakeland Bank, Liquor Factory, Selective Insurance Group and Thorlabs.

“This event proved to be a fun and rewarding event for the community,” said Cannistra. 

The Kiwanis has awarded over $420,000 in scholarships to local students from Sparta High School, Pope John and Sussex County Technical School.  In 2015 alone they awarded $19,000.

The Kiwanis meet at Homers Restaurant in Sparta.  Men and women are welcome to attend the dinner meeting on Thursday nights at 7 p.m.
