NEWTON, NJ— Sussex Stags and the Central Penn Piranhas took to Palmer Field at Newton High School for the Stags’ fourth game of the season, on the evening of Saturday, August 8.  At the end of four quarters, the Stags landed on top for the fourth week in a row, winning by one point, 13-12 over the Piranhas.

After the Piranhas scored in the first quarter to put the first points up on the board, the Stags’ offense had a difficult time getting through Central Penn’s defensive line.

In the second quarter, after some pep-talk on the bench, the Stags came out full-force and ready to win another game. They started by putting three points on the board on Evan Costello's field goal.

Tyler Adams and Vlenale Byrd each grabbed three passes; Adams for a total of 75 yards and Byrd for a total of 38 yards.

Defensively, Demetri Thompson, Michael Cousar, Jacob Baker, and William Freeland each had one sack. Cousar led on forced fumbles with two.  Baker and Olufemi Adebola each added to the effort with one forced fumble a piece.

Adebola also snagged two interceptions from the Piranhas, returning for 43 yards. Matthew Landolfi, Phillip Londono, Omar Pollard, and Jihad Castro each had one fumble recovery a piece.  Londono had a total of 28 return yards.

Adebola and Londono each had a deflection against Central Penn.

Lamoreaux was the only Stag to score a touchdown against the Piranhas, while Costello helped get points on the scoreboard by making two of the three attempted field goals.  His longest successful kick was from 48 yards out.

The Sussex Stags will continue their season on Saturday, August 12, when they take on the Connecticut Bombers away. They will return home on Saturday, August 26 to host “Veteran’s Night” with a 7 p.m. kickoff. Adult tickets $10, kids 6-17 tickets $8, children 5 and under are free and veterans tickets are $5.
