NEWTON, NJ – A new event has been added to this year’s Taste of Newton, a day that introduces area residents to Newton’s many restaurants. On September 12 Spring Street will become a stage of culinary experiences. The event will run from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.
In addition to the fare offered by the local eating establishments, there will be music “for your listening and dancing pleasure,” according to the organizers at the Greater Newton Chamber of Commerce.
New this year is a “Chopped” style competition for top chef called Chef’s Basket Challenge. Local chefs who choose to participate will receive an envelope the week prior to Taste of Newton with a list of four ingredients that must be incorporated into a dish. The winner will be named Top Chef of the Taste of Newton. Chefs can also choose to participate in the People’s Choice award, according to organizers.
“This promises to add extra flavor and excitement to the evening,” said the Greater Newton Chamber of Commerce organizers. Proceeds from the Taste of Newton will go to support their scholarship fund. Two of the scholarships they award go to two students that will be going in to further their education in food related studies.
Tickets can be pre-ordered through the Greater Newton Chamber of Commerce office for $50. If there are any tickets still available on the day of the event, they will be $60. Online tickets can be purchased through their webpage until September 11. Tickets purchased online after September 9 will be picked up during the event from the Newton Theater box office.
Beer, wine and mixed drinks will be available to purchase throughout the evening.
Rain date is scheduled for Tuesday, September 13.
