NEWTON, NJ—Wantage resident, Eric J Utter was arrested by after being stopped by police on Route 23 in Franklin.
Newton Police responded to a call at 12:40 p.m. on April 12, from Kohl’s Department store regarding a male shoplifter. He had been seen by store security personnel stealing a Sony SRS X2 blue-tooth portable speaker, valued at $129.99. Before the police arrived the shoplifter was seen leaving the store in a late model gold Buick.
Area police were notified. The vehicle was located and stopped by Ptl. Patrick Abello of Hardyston Police Department, assisted by Ptl. William Grissom of the Franklin Police Department.
After an investigation, Utter, age 39, was arrested and charged for shoplifting and driving with a suspended driver’s license.
Utter was processed and released pending an appearance in Newton Municipal Court. The portable speaker was recovered and returned to Kohl’s.
