How do you get to Carnegie Hall?  The Children’s Chorus of Sussex County has been ‘practicing’ and would like to have you join them on stage on Saturday, May 24, 2014.  CCSC has been selected to perform at Carnegie Hall in a premiere of a new work by highly respected composer Stephen Paulus.  MidAmerica Productions, Inc. commissioned the piece, which was written for SATB adult and treble children’s choir.  MidAmerica is the foremost independent producer of classical concerts in New York.  Peter Tiboris, founder of MidAmerica Productions has had a longstanding association with Carnegie Hall of more than 30 years.

Here are the details. CCSC would like to invite male and female middle school and high school singers with unchanged voices to join us in preparing and performing Paulus’ To be certain of the dawn on May 24 at Carnegie Hall.  There will be a mandatory rehearsal in New York City with Dr. William Wyman on Friday, May 23 the day prior to the performance.  Dr. Wyman is Professor of Music and Director of Choral Activities at Nebraska Wesleyan University and he will conduct the premiere performance.  CCSC will begin local rehearsals every Wednesday and Sunday beginning March 9 from 6:30 until 7:30 pm.  The rehearsals will be held at Christ Church, 62 Main Street, Newton.  We are looking for talented singers who are interested in the unique experience of premiering a new choral work in New York City’s premier concert hall.

The Children’s Chorus of Sussex County has been invited to perform in Carnegie Hall a number of times but this is the first time they have been selected to premiere a new work.  CCSC has been recognized by MidAmerica as a choir that sings with “great musical sensitivity and comes to rehearsals with the music well-prepared.”  Deborah Mello, Founder and Artistic Director of CCSC, remembers two years ago when the choir was invited to perform John Rutter’s Mass of the Children on a MidAmerica concert, the conductor, Melodie Galloway claimed it was unnecessary to have such long rehearsals with a choir that was so well prepared and sang so beautifully.
