SPARTA, NJ — Following several delays due to the Covid 19 pandemic, the Sparta Education Foundation is excited to announce its Inaugural Cornament, presented by Rev It Up Automotive of Sparta, will be held Sunday, June 6, 2021.
This first-ever fundraiser is a cornhole tournament for all ages, and will now be taking place on the grounds of the Mohawk Avenue School. Teams of two can sign up now for $50 per team at SEFcornament.com.
All CDC guidelines will be followed for this event. Hand sanitizer will be available.
Cornhole is a lawn game in which players take turns throwing beanbags at a raised platform with a hole in the far end. A bag in the hole scores 3 points, while one on the board scores 1 point. Play continues until a team or player reaches or exceeds the score of 21 by means of cancellation scoring. Whether you are 8 or 80, anyone can throw a beanbag, and there will be a cash prize for the winning team. (To be eligible for the cash prize, one team member must be 18 years old or older. NJ Law prohibits cash prizes to anyone under the age of 18. For teams with two members under 18, the prize will be a cornhole set).
“We are really looking forward to this event after a long drought throughout Covid,” said Heather Egli, co-chair of the event. “We unfortunately had to cancel our 2020 and 2021 Dragonboat races — an event that is always a big fundraiser for the SEF. We believe this fun, family-friendly event will help us raise significant funds to continue our mission of supporting the public schools in our community.”
For more information about the inaugural SEF Cornament or to sign up your team, visit SEFcornament.com or go to the Sparta Education Foundation’s website or Facebook page. Preregistration is a must; there will be no registration the day of the Cornament due to the limitations set by NJ Covid Guidelines. Registration will close once the maximum number of teams is met.
Registered teams will be required to download the Scoreholio app before June 6th for access to a QR code for quick check-in, push notifications, and updated scoring.
Businesses looking to support the event will have the opportunity to purchase lawn signs for $100. Signs will be posted near the cornhole boards during the Cornament. Lawn signs are also available to participating families or those unable to compete that day.
In addition to the fun of the tournament, a DJ will provide music and entertainment throughout the day. Though food will not be available, attendants are encouraged to bring a cooler, or to order delivery from one of Sparta’s many local restaurants. Alcohol is not permitted.
Attendants are also encouraged to bring their own beach chairs, towels, sunscreen, umbrellas, pop-up tents, or whatever is needed to help make the day an enjoyable experience for all.
The SEF reserves the right to limit spectator admission due to NJ Covid Guidelines. Limits will be communicated closer to tournament day.
In addition to Rev it Up Automotive, the SEF appreciates our additional sponsors, including: Atlantic Health Care - Newton Medical Center, Jersey Mike’s, Coldwell Banker, Dr. Lawrence Sullivan, Harte Orthodontics, Lakeland Bank, the M.
