Local Sussex County resident sets out on expedition to Mount Kilimanjaro, supporting local non-profit organization.

LAFAYETTE, NJ  - Keith Utter, a local Sussex County native and resident, is preparing for a strenuous expedition to Mount Kilimanjaro, in the Kilimanjaro region of Tanzania. Recently, Utter partnered with Pass It Along, a local non-profit located in Lafayette, New Jersey, to raise money through his expedition for the organization.

“I discovered Pass It Along, an organization dedicated to youth facing many of the same challenges I had and even more so in today’s society,” says Utter, “The mission of Pass It Along resonated very deeply with me, and I had even expressed to them how an organization such as their may have been beneficial to me so many years ago.”

Utter is a professional photographer, currently residing in Sussex County. He is semi-retired, after more than 45 years in the construction industry. Growing up, Utter was exposed to the great outdoors, making him an avid outdoorsman, sportsman and conservationist. Utter attended Newton High School, as a member of the Class of 1974, but left during his sophomore year to work and learn to become a master carpenter and woodworker.

Following this, Utter embarked on a successful 25-year career as a Noted Building Official in Sussex County. He also spent about 15 years as an adjunct instructor at Sussex County Community College, educating those in the constructions trades on the building, fire and mechanical codes, as well as the respective administrative regulations. His photographs have been appeared in various newspapers, such as the New Jersey Herald, the Star Ledger and the New York Daily News.

All proceeds raised through this event will directly benefit Pass It Along, and allows us to persistently work towards our mission of creating confident, compassionate and resilient teenagers through self-discovery, leadership and volunteerism.
