NEW JERSEY – Stop and Shop has announced they will be modifying operations to consider the wellbeing of older customers and to allow adequate time to restock shelves, including the Sparta store.
Beginning Monday, March 16 Stop & Shop will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. This will allow employees to unload deliveries, stock shelves and serve customers during operating hours.
Beginning on Thursday, March 19 Stop & Shop will create hours specifically geared to accommodate customers 60 years-old and older. The stores will be open from 6 to 7:30 a.m. for customers 60 and over, following guidelines from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention and local health officials.
“Stop & Shop is making the decision to allow community members in this age category to shop in a less crowded environment, which better enables social distancing,” according to an announcement by Stop & Shop officials.
The stores will not be checking identification, according to the announcement, but they request “we all respect the purpose of early opening – to do the right thing for our older neighbors.” The stores also said they reserve the right to ask a customer to leave if they are not a member of this demographic.
The announcement said, “Stop & Shop is continuing to maintain high levels of hygiene and sanitation in its stores and online operations. We’re also taking additional measures during this time, which include wiping down checkout areas including the belts and pin pads with disinfectant even more frequently. We will continue to follow guidance from the CDC to help keep our customers and associates safe.”
