Sussex County Chamber of Commerce Celebrates Inaugural Dinner; Honors Outgoing And Incoming Officers

January 20, 2013 at 3:35 PM

SPARTA, NJ - Sussex County business and organizational leaders gathered last night at the Lake Mohawk Golf Club, for the Sussex County Chamber of Commerce's annual inaugural dinner and dance, which gave thanks to outgoing 2012 officers and the board of trustees, and welcomed the 2013 incoming officers and members of the board of trustees.

After the cocktail hour when the attendees had their first opportunity to mingle, guests took their seats in the dining room, to join in to welcome the new officers and board.

Sussex County Chamber of Commerce President, Tammie Horsfield, enlightened the crowd with a positive message about working together as business owners to succeed collectively.

"The message tonight to all of you is although we are in challenging times, this is the time that brings out the best in business," Horsfield said. "I would encourage you ad members to work with other members first. Those who work together, grow together."

Horsfield focused on the benefits of using the services available to chamber members, and reiterated one of the chamber mottos.

"The Sussex County Chamber of Commerce is committed to providing 'Quality in Business, Quality in Living,' and provide our members with a platform for success," she said. "I believe the future is promising."

Horsfield gave a special thanks to outgoing chair, Tom Tate, of Sussex Rural Electric Cooperative, and welcome incoming chair, Robert (Rob) B. Nicholson III, of Eastern Propane Corporation.

"Tom has been a great leader," said Horsfield. "He has been more than a great leader, he's been a great friend."

"My speech simply revolves around two words," Tate said. "'Thank you.' This is one of the finest chambers I've had the privilege to be a part of."

Ceremoniously, instead of passing on a gavel, Tate passed on the position of chair, literally, to incoming chair Nicholson, handing him a folding chair as he took to the podium.

"I am extremely honored to be the new chair of the Sussex County Chamber of Commerce," said Nicholson. "The chamber has created a special role in my business, and in here are my closest friends. To our newest members, 'welcome.' To our returning members, 'welcome back.'"

Horsfield said she looks forward to working with the new board of officers, and gave an extra special thanks to her staff, for coordinating the frequent chamber events they make happen.
