JUNE 23, 2020 – NEWTON, NJ —The Greater Newton Chamber of Commerce has awarded scholarships to three local high school seniors for their outstanding contributions to the Newton community. The honorees were celebrated at a virtual Chamber of Commerce meeting on June 9.
“The Greater Newton Chamber of Commerce is comprised of businesses and individuals in our region who strive each day to make the area a wonderful place to work and live,” said Hope Hurley, Scholarship Committee Chair for the GNCC. “The students selected for this year’s scholarships also share these values, and we are confident they will continue to serve the community as they further their education and embark on their careers of choice.”
Krista Leonardo, Melaina Scuralli and Jessica Tattersall, all graduates of Newton High School, each received $500 toward their future education expenses. Ms. Leonardo will attend Rutgers University to pursue a career as a physician assistant. Ms. Scuralli will continue her education at Sussex County Community College to study special education. Ms. Tattersall will attend Montclair State University to pursue a degree in nursing.
The Greater Newton Chamber of Commerce awards scholarships each year to local students via a dedicated Scholarship Fund which is supported through direct donations and fundraising efforts at Chamber events. The annual Taste of Newton event, held in September, contributes the majority of the Chamber’s scholarship funds each year.
