SPARTA, NJ – Sparta Township Council honored Jeff Hookway for having served as an EMT with the Sparta Ambulance Squad for 40 years. Mayor Molly Whilesmith read a proclamation at the township council meeting on Tuesday night with a crowd in the audience.

Hookway began his service in 1977.  He has held a number of leadership positions including First Lieutenant, Treaurer, Captain, CFO and Board of Trustee member, Whilesmith read. 

Currently, according to Whilesmith, Hookway is serving as the Crew Chief on Sunday afternoons.

“Jeff’s performance of his duties and responsibilities has been exemplary and he has gained the trust and respect of his fellow EMT’s who have had the opportunity to work with him,” Whilesmith said.

Councilman and ambulance squad member Dave Smith thanked Hookway for his “lifetime of service.”

“The residents are fortunate to have volunteers like Mr. Hookway,” Manager Bill Close said.  “A lifetime of service speaks to the character of an individual.”
