SUSSEX COUNTY, NJ – The COVID-19 pandemic has had an impact on food pantries throughout the county.  In addition to a larger than usual need, many of the volunteers are older and not coming out as much as usual. 

As of April 1,some have changed hours, some require clients call ahead or make an appointment and others have closed.

Harvest House Lunch Program: (Sussex) (973)875-6445 – Free meal served M-F @11:30 a.m. operating as normal.

Holy Counselor Lutheran Church: (Vernon) (973)827-5251 – Open Mon. Thurs, Fri a.m. to noon call ahead and they will put a bag out for pick up.

Hopatcong Westside Methodist: (Hopatcong) (973)398-0846 - Mon, Thurs 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wed 10 a.m. to noon, 5 to 7 p.m.

Lafayette Federated Church “The Well”: (Lafayette) (973)383-4461 – Open Thurs 10 a.m. to noon, drive up service of prepacked bags only. Call in advance.

Manna House: (Newton) (973)579-6517 – Must walk in one at a time and will receive a hot boxed lunch then leave. From 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Meals On Wheels: Meals on Wheels is available to Sussex County seniors, 60+ who meet the clinical eligibility criteria. This would be individuals who are home bound, without support, who need assistance with meals. The program can provide up to one meal a day that meets 1/3 the daily nutrition for a Senior. Due to the current COVID-19 situation these meals could be frozen or shelf stable. To be screened for these services people can call Senior Services at 973-579- 0555.

Newton School System: (Newton) – Free and reduced meals available to Newton public school system students except for week of April 13 (spring break). Please contact school directly for more information.

NORWESCAP Pathways 2 Prosperity: (Newton) (973)862-6680 - Food distribution every Tuesday: both curbside pickup and curbside home delivery offered. Please call for more information.

Project Self Sufficiency (Newton): 973-940-3500 – Beginning 3/30/20, the food pantry will be open 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.., please call ahead for intake.

Sussex County Division of Social Services (Newton): (973)383-3600 – We are distributing emergency food from the pantry via the garage entrance. Press the intercom button to ring the agency. You will be asked what’s needed and bag will be brought to the door. Open 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
