ROXBURY, NJ - The roads of Roxbury were beneath the running shoes Wednesday of a Hasbrouck Heights resident running almost 190 miles to raise money for MS research.
"Today was another great day," said the runner, Jamie Woyce, at the end of her fifth day - of seven in her segment - participating in the "MS Run the US" ultra relay.
The Roxbury piece took Woyce over Emmans Road, Canal Street, Route 10 and Route 46. She departed Warren County early in the day and stopped for the evening in Rockaway.
"I am getting closer and closer," said the Cliffside Park teacher and coach. "In the beginning I felt really tired and wasn’t sure what today was going to bring. But for some reason the first 18 miles went really fast to me."
Along the way on Wednesday, Woyce was met by some family members. "My family met me at my 20-mile mark, which was a great surprise!" she said. "I stopped for a bunch of pictures with them and then was able to run a little with my niece, nephew and brother. It was so great to see them and gave me a nice boost. Being that the weather was great (overcast) I decided to do the extra mile to get it done early."
Afterwards the group went to the Denville Diner where segment 13 runner, Courtney Kruse, was working. "It was nice to get to see her and chat about the relay," she said.
"Shockingly, I feel pretty good...definitely better than I ever thought I would," said Woyce. "I was able to go see doctors Doerr and Doyle today which was helpful and so nice. They are such a great group of doctors and are so helpful."
Looking ahead to Thursday's run, Woyce said if she logs about 30 miles she should end up in Hasbrouck Heights.
Thursday's planned route will take Woyce from Rockaway through Denville, Parsippany, Fairfield, Little Falls, Montclair, Clifton, Passaic, and into Bergen County in Wallington.
She is scheduled to enter Hasbrouck Heights sometime between noon and 5 p.m.
