NEWTON, NJ—A Pennsylvania man is facing multiple charges including driving while intoxicated with a child in the vehicle after a traffic stop.  On January 5 Ptl. Jared Zappa stopped David Torre, 38 of Tobyhanna, Pennsylvania on Water Street for a broken brake light according to police.

At first the driver and front seat passenger Jennifer Kaplan, 35 gave Zappa false names and claimed to be brother and sister, police report.

Zappa found Torre’s real name, found he had a warrant out of Andover Township and suspected he was driving drunk, according to police.

Torre was charged with hindering apprehension, obstruction, DWI, DWI with a child in the car, DWI in a school crosswalk, driving while suspended, unlicensed driver, failure to maintain lamps and failure to inspect.

Kaplan was charged with hindering apprehension, obstruction, allowing an intoxicated driver to operate her vehicle, and allowing a suspended driver to operate her vehicle.

Torre was held in the Sussex County Jail, while Kaplan was released after being served with a complaint.

Newton Police Department Investigating Officers involved were Ptl. Jared Zappa, Ptl. John Flanagan, Ptl. D.J. Meisinger, and Sgt. Michael Monaco, with the help of Ptl. Matt Puccio, from Andover Twp. Police Department.
