NEWTON, NJ – A homeless man is facing drug charges after being found by police lying on the ground near Lower Spring Street. On July 3 around 3:55 a.m. Michael Stafford, 33 told Ptl. Donald Meisinger and Ptl. Steven Kneidl that he was just resting and did not need medical attention, police said.
When the officers were checking for outstanding warrants, they saw Stafford throw something on the ground. The officers found it to be a baggie containing 10 Cloazepam pill, not prescribed to him, police said.
Stafford was searched as he was taken into custody. He was found to have a hypodermic syringe, police said. The officers also determined Stafford had an outstanding warrant from the Sussex County Sheriff’s Department.
Stafford was charged with possession of prescription drugs and possession of a hypodermic syringe. He was lodged in the county jail until his court date.
