NEWTON, NJ—An Andover man is facing drug charges after caught the attention of police having parked in the Newton Cemetery. On June 8 around 4:30 p.m., Ptl. John Flanagan was patrolling the cemetery when he saw Jeffrey Schermerhorn, 27, standing outside his car, police report.
As the officer approached he was Schermerhorn throw something into the woods. Schermerhorn admitted it was a glass smoking pipe containing marijuana that he threw, police report.
After Schermerhorn was taken into custody, he was found to have an outstanding warrant out of Mount Olive Municipal Court as well, according to police.
Schermerhorn was processed and released after being charged with possession of controlled dangerous substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He has a mandatory court appearance in Newton Municipal Court on Tuesday, June 26 at 9 a.m. Newton Police Department’s investigating officers included Ptl. John Flanagan, Ptl. Anthony Keiling, and DSG. Steve VanNieuwland.
