NEWTON, NJ – An Andover Township man is facing charges after fighting with people near Spring Liquors. On June 8 around 5:09 p.m. Newton police found Vincent Scardino, 49 to be drunk and fighting, police said.
Police learned that Scardino had assaulted three women and a man. All four victims said they had minor injuries after Scardino had physically assaulted them and yelled derogatory names and saying inappropriate things to the women, police said.
None of the victims said they knew Scardino, police said.
The victims were treated at the scene by Newton First Aid Squad and all declined to get further treatment at Newton Medical Center, police said.
When Scardino was taken into custody officers found he had an open container of rum in his bag. He was charged with four counts of simple assault and disorderly conduct as well as having an open container, police said.
Scardino was released with a court date of June 25. Ptl. Thomas Tosti, DSG. Steve VanNieuwland, Ptl. John Flanagan, Lt. Robert Osborn, Ptl. D.J. Meisinger and Ptl. Steven Kneidl were all involved with the investigation.
