NEWTON, NJ – Two people have been charged with having alcohol in Memory Park.  On June 8, around 7:58 p.m. Special Officer Raul Couce saw a man and a woman shouting at each other.  He separated them, police said.

Couce found one of the people fighting, Newton resident Christina Collins, 30, had an open container of vodka.  She was taken into custody and charged with possession of alcoholic beverages in the town park.  She was released with a court date, police said.

Also on June 8 around 6:39 p.m. a Newton Police encountered Andover resident Vincent Scardino, 49, and suspected he was drunk.  Scardino had two bottles of alcohol, police said. 

Scardino refused to comply with officers’ request to leave the park and tried to take back his alcohol. He was taken into custody and charged with being drunk in a town park and possession of alcoholic beverages in a town park, police said.
