SPARTA, NJ – A traffic stop led to drug charges for a Jersey City woman on February 7 around 11:30 a.m. on Route 15 North. Officer Steven Guido stopped driver Curtis Evans because his Nissan Murano did not have a front license plate and tinted windows according to police.
Guido smelled marijuana in the car. Evans said the passenger Maria Javier, 39, had smoked pot in the car. A search of the car yielded two ziplock bags of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Javier said it was hers, police report.
Javier was taken into custody and brought to Sparta Police Department headquarters for processing. Evans was ticketed for improper display of plates, obstructed view and failure to inspect.
Javier was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was released with a court date.
