SPARTA, NJ — Tires were slashed at three different residences overnight Friday in Sparta. According to police a total of five cars and 11 tires were vandalized between 11 p.m. Friday and 6:30 a.m. Saturday in three different neighborhoods.
The vandalism occurred at homes on Heather Lane, Mount Pleasant Road and Rainbow Trail.
One of the victims, who wished not to be named said it cost $1,600 to have the damaged tires replaced on two vehicles.
Sparta Lt. John Lamon confirmed the cars that were damaged are “all driven by high school students.” Lamon said the police would be interviewing the students as part of the investigation.
Sparta High School’s prom was Friday night and according to one victim at least two of the students were away “at the beach,” where “everyone was talking about it.”
Anyone with information about these incidents is asked to contact the Sparta Police Department. One of the victims is offering a reward for any information that leads to an arrest.
