NEWTON, NJ—The Town of Newton implemented a Smart 911 system, helping to give dispatchers information to help those who call 9-1-1 as fast as possible.

“It is my understanding that we were the first and there may be others who are considering it or may have already started to implement it, namely Sparta Police Department,” Chief Michael Richards said.

The system allows residents to create a Safety profile via https://www.smart911.com/ for their household which will proactively provide details on your family and home that 9-1-1 dispatchers may need in order to send help in the event of an emergency.

“The Smart911 service represents the town’s commitment to continuing to seek ways to improve public safety and enhance response to emergencies,” Richards said. “It helps to ensure the fastest and most well-informed response in an emergency, where seconds count.  We encourage our residents and business owners to sign up – it’s easy, it’s safe and it’s free.”

Smart911 then delivers this information automatically with any 9-1-1 calls that are routed to our 9-1-1 center.
