NEWTON, NJ—The Newton High School Field Hockey team fell to Belvidere in the second round of the Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex tournament on Thursday, when they lost 4-0.

“The team was disappointed in their level of play,” said Head Coach Lisa Bechtel. “They did not play to their potential.”

After both having a bye in the first round, Newton went into the tournament as the eight-seeded team, going up against Belvidere as the ninth-seeded team.

Belvidere out shot Newton 22-2, leaving the Braves’ goalkeeper, Abby Berkowitz alone in the goal to save 18 of the shots taken.

According to Bechtel, the team “will now focus their energy on how they finish in the Colonial Division and aim to perform well in the state tournament.”

The Newton High School Lady Braves’ record is 5-4 overall this season and 2-1 in their conference division as they continue through the season.
