NEWTON, NJ—The Newton High School boys basketball team hosted the Route 206 Challenge Tournament over the holiday break. They played against Warren Hills on Friday and Franklin on Saturday.

Newton lost to Franklin 64-63, after outscoring them 38-27 in the second half, Unfortunately, Newton was not able to make up the 37-25 deficit from the first half.

Aaron Fantasia led in points against Franklin, putting up seven 2-pointers and two 3-pointers for a total of 20 points. Brian McKeown put up one 2-pointer, five 3-pointers and made two foul shots to add 19 points to the score board. D Heller scored 17 points, while Donovan Thomas contributed four and Gabriel Tebangin added three.

On Friday, Newton won against Warren Hills 69-52, moving them to the semi-final round of the tournament. Dominating in the first half by outscoring Warren Hills 32-24, Newton added another 37 points to the board in the second half.

Fantasia put up 11 2-pointers and made four foul shots to contribute 26 points. McKeown and Jack Young each added another 12 points apiece. Thomas contributed eight, Heller had seven and Dylan Bailey contributed four.

The Braves are currently 3-1 overall so far this season, and 2-0 in the NJAC division. They will play Sparta on Monday, December 30 in the third-place consolation game that will begin at 1 p.m.
