NEWTON, NJ—The Newton High School boys basketball team lost to Hackettstown when they played them on Thursday and then took on 13-seeded team Phillipsburg in the Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex tournament on Saturday.

Newton entered the tournament as the fourth seeded team and hosted Phillipsburg at Newton’s home court. Although Newton fought, they lost by 10 with a final score of 51-41.

Lead scorers in the game were Aaron Fantasia with 13 points and JD Heller with 10 points. Fantasia put up three 2-pointers, two 3-pointers and one foul shot, while Heller had two 2-pointers, one 3-pointer and made three free throws.

Brian McKeown contributed nine points, Dylan Bailey contributed six and Donovan Thomas added three.

Newton took on Hackettstown in a regular season game Thursday night and lost 66-55 on Newton’s court. Fantasia, Bailey and Heller were the three top scorers against Hackettstown.

Fantasia put up 18 points with six 2-pointers and two 3-pointers, Bailey had 14 points with five 2-pointers and four foul shots, and Heller had 13 points with four 3-pointers and one free throw.

McKeown contributed five points, Thomas and Pasquale Festa each contributed two apiece and Jack Young added one foul shot.

The Newton High School boys basketball team’s overall record is 13-7 and their NJAC division record is 11-4. They will play away against Wallkill Valley on Thursday, February 13 at 7 p.m.
