NEWTON, NJ—The Newton High School boys basketball team won 69-50 over Pope John on Saturday when they played them on Pope John’s turf.

The Braves came out big in the first half, scoring 41 points to take the lead by seven going into halftime.

Newton scored another 28 points in the second half to secure the victory, while Pope John was only able to score 16.

As in past games this season, JD Heller and Aaron Fantasia were lead scorers. Heller scored four 2-pointers, four 3-pointers and two fouls shots for a total of 22 points and Fantasia scored eight 2-pointers and one 3-pointer, putting up 19 points.

Jack Young, Dylan bailey and Donovan Thomas each contributed seven points. Brian McKeown added four points.

The Newton High School boys basketball team moved their overall record this season to 8-4 and their NJAC division record to 6-2.
