NEWTON, NJ—The Newton High School boys soccer team played three games in the past week. They took on Mount Olive, High Point and Pope John.

On Tuesday, October 8, Newton played away at Mount Olive and lost 2-1. Scoring for the Braves was Luke Kerrick with an assist by Kymani Byrd. Jackson Heller had 11 saves.

On Saturday, October 5, the Braves played in the second round of the Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex tournament as the fourth-seeded team. After getting a bye in the first round, they played home against 13-seeded Pope John XXIII.

Newton crushed Pope John 6-2, scoring three goals in the first half and another three in the second half.  Robert Giordano, InmerCaal Coc, Kerrick, Steven Bottone, Ryan Ayoso, and Lucas Mezza, who each scored one goal for Newtonl. Heller had 10 saves.

Lastly, the Braves shut out High Point on Thursday, October 3 in an away game. Newton out shot them 13-3. Brian McKeown and Luca Morello scored for Newton with one assist by Owen Power.

The Braves move to the Quarterfinal round of the H/W/S tournament and will take on fifth-seeded team Hackettstown on Newton’s turf field at 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 12.
