NEWTON, NJ—The Newton High School girls field hockey team took their first loss this season against Vernon when they played them away on Friday and lost 2-1, but came back on Monday, and played against High Point, winning 2-1.
High Point took 12 shots on Newton’s keeper Abby Berkowitz, who had 11 saves throughout the game.
Goals were scored by Bridget Kerrick and Julia Decker, with assists by Julia Fit and Elissar Abou-Jaoude.
Newton and Vernon were neck and neck in shots on goal, Newton with seven and Vernon with eight.
Scoring the sole goal for Newton was Kerrick with an assist from Erin Fucito. Berkowitz had four saves in goal.
The Newton High School field hockey team’s overall record so far this year is 5-1. The Lady Braves will take on Hackettstown on Thursday, September 19 away beginning at 4 p.m.
