NEWTON, NJ—The Newton High School field hockey team hosted both Kittatinny and Belvidere last week, shutting out Kittatinny, Newton lost to Belvidere.

On Friday, October 4, eight-seeded Newton played against nine-seeded Belvidere in the second round of the Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex tournament.

They were shut out 1-0 as Belvidere moved to the next round to play against top-seeded Warren Hills. Abby Berkowitz had three saves.

The Braves shut out the Cougars on Wednesday, when they hosted them on Newton’s field and won 5-0. Newton scored two goals in the first half and another three in the second to secure the win.

Samantha Samiljan had two goals and one assist for the Braves. Dominique Simeone added one goal and one assist. Julia Fitt contributed with one goal and Elissar Abou-Jaoude with one goal and one assist. Sidney Pavlishin had one assist. Berkowitz had one save.

The Newton High School field hockey team is 9-3 overall this season. They will host Vernon on Thursday, October 10 beginning at 4 p.m.
