NEWTON, NJ—The Newton High School girls basketball team defeated rivals Kittatinny 45-34, when they played them in an early game on Tuesday.
The Braves ddominate the Cougars, taking the lead by 14 going into halftime. Kittatinny battled back, scoring another 16 points in the second half to Newton’s 14 but they were unable to beat the Braves.
Maddie Gore led for the Braves, putting up seven 2-pointers and three foul shots for a total of 17 points.
Olivia Buckley scored 12 points, with four 2-pointers, a 3-pointer and one from the foul line. Amy Fehr added nine points for Newton, making two 2-pointers and five free throws. On the other end of the court Fehr had 13 rebounds and four steals throughout the game
Taylor Squiers, Caroline Fox and Jessie Brannick each added to the win. Squires also had five rebounds and Brannick grabbed three steals throughout the game.
The Braves moved their overall record to 11-7 and their NJAC division record to 8-5. The Braves will take on Jefferson away on Thursday, February 6.
