NEWTON, NJ—The Newton High School girls basketball team ended their season Saturday, when they faced off against top-seeded Jefferson and lost 45-32.

Newton entered the tournament as the fifth-seeded team, advancing past 12-seeded Hawthorne and fourth-seeded Manchester Regional to make it to the semifinal round.

Jessie Brannick put up 12 points, making one 2-pointer, three 3-pointers and one foul shot, while Maddie Gore added nine points through four 2-pointers and a free throw.

Olivia Buckley made one 2-pointer, and two 3-pointers for a total of eight points and Taylor Squiers added three points from foul shots made.

The girls’ season ended with the loss, but they finished with an overall record of 19-9 and an NJAC division record of 13-5.
