NEWTON, NJ—The Newton High School girls basketball team lost 53-34 on Saturday, when they hosted Mount St. Mary in an afternoon game.
Mount St. Mary came out strong in the first quarter, taking the lead by a whopping 17 points heading into halftime.
The Braves struggled, but added another 17 points in the second half, but it was not enough to come back to take the victory.
Maddie Gore was the top-scorer of the game, putting up seven 2-pointers and two foul shots for a total of 18 points. Jessie Brannick put up two 3-pointers, adding six points and Amy Fehr added another four to the board.
Olivia Buckley put up three points, Caroline Fox added two more and Taylor Squiers made one foul shot. Fehr had 11 rebounds throughout the game.
The Braves moved their record to 10-5 overall and 8-3 in the NJAC Division. They will host Sparta on Wednesday, January 29 beginning at 7 p.m.
