NEWTON, NJ—The fifth seed Newton High School girls basketball team already swept past two teams to advance to the quarterfinal round of the NJSIAA tournament.

The Braves played at fourth seed Manchester Regional Thursday earning a 65-37 victory. Newton dominated from the first jump ball to the final buzzer, holding the Falcons to single digits in each of the first three quarters.

"Girls have started both games off really strongly and played great team defense," Coach Whitney Dugan said. "We need to continue to focus on defense if we want to make it past the next round." We have a familiar opponent against Jefferson. We willing be playing there so we need to come out focus, determined, and ready to play.
