SPARTA, NJ- The Newton High School girls basketball team defeated Villa Walsh 52-32 on Saturday in the consolation semifinal round of the annual Spartan Holiday Tournament.

The Braves took the lead early putting up 24 points before the half to Villa Walsh’s 18.

Three Braves scored in double digits.  Amy Fehr led their effort with a double-double; 16 points and 15 rebounds.

Maddie Gore put up 15 points and pulled down six rebounds.  Jessie Brannick added 11 points and five rebounds. 

The team lost to Warren Hills in the first round on Friday, 46-45.

The girls play again on January 3 at Kittatinny with a 7 p.m. start.  They have a season record of 2-2.
