NEWTON, NJ—The Newton High School girls soccer team was shut out 1-0 against Vernon on Saturday, when they hosted them on Newton’s turf.

Newton out shot Vernon 21-11 and kept up a good defense throughout the entire game. Vernon scored the only goal of the game in the fourth quarter and Newton was unable to get it back.

Caroline Fox had four saves as keeper for Newton against Vernon’s offense, who took 11 shots on goal. Newton is currently 5-5-1 overall this season and Vernon is 6-4.

The Newton High School girls soccer team will host their rivals the Kittatinny Cougars in a night game on Wednesday, October 2 beginning at 7 p.m.
