NEWTON, NJ – Newton High School shut down Hopatcong on Friday 36-0 on Braves’ turf. It was a team effort with six Braves putting points on the board.
Newton started strong with 13 points in the first quarter. The Braves defense did not let Hopatcong get by them all game.
Jack Young scored first on his own with an eight yard run. Ryan Pappas would be next to the endzone on a 40 yard Young pass. Pappas had three catches in the game for 52 yards.
Dylan Bailey put up six on a 12 yard pass from Young. Bailey had two catches for 18 total yards.
Aaron Fantasia went on a 47 yard run for another trip to the end zone. Fantasia had six carries for 71 yards and touchdown. He was also Young’s favorite target with five catches for 62 yards.
Takeo Sibblies scored the final Newton TD on a 3 yard run. Sibbllies and Young each put together 60 yards; Sibblies had 18 carries and Young moved the ball on six carries. Julian Sibblies also had six carries for 17 yards.
Young went to the air 17 ties with 10 completions for 132 yards and two touchdowns.
Derek Campbell put up four extra points.
Young grabbed two interceptions. Braydon Nolan got to Hopatcong’s quarterback for a sack. Nolan and Jacob Tonking were each credited with seven tackles. Bailey, Jabari Oxley and Shane Nannery each had five.
Newton is now 3-2 for the season. They will play at North Warren on Friday with a 7 p.m. kick-off.
