NEWTON, NJ—The Newton High School girls field hockey team shut out High Point and Sparta this week.

The Braves hosted both high Point and Sparta, playing High Point on Wednesday and Sparta on Saturday. Newton beat High Point 3-0 and blanked Sparta 5-0.

Newton outshot Sparta 16-6. Abby Berkowitz was in goal for Newton and had six saves against the Spartan offense.

Sydney Pavlishin and EllisarAbou-Jaoude each score two goals apiece for Newton. Bridget Kerrick had one goal. Assists were made by Erin Fucito, Pavlishin, and Dominique Simeone.

The Braves also outshot High Point 11-1. Berkowitz had one save against High Point on Wednesday. Pavlishin, Kerrick, and Abou-Jaoude each score one goal with assists by Julia Fitt and Pavlishin.

The Newton High School field hockey team is 14-3 overall this season and 14-1 in the NJAC division. They will begin the first round of the North Jersey, Section 1 Group 1 NJSIAA Tournament on Monday, October 21. Their opponent and time had yet to be determined.
