NEWTON, NJ—Hosted by Kittatinny High School, swim teams participated in the 2020 Sussex County Swim Championships. Eight teams competed in the Kittatinny pool; Newton, Pope John, Vernon, Sparta, Jefferson, Hackettstown, High Point, and of course Kittatinny competed on Saturday in the 2020 Sussex County Swim Championships.
The Newton Lenape Valley Swim team placed in the top three in more than half of the events and the men’s team came in second overall with 316 points at the end of the day.
The team took second place in the second event which was the Boys 200-Yard Medley Relay. Swimmers in order of relay appearance were Steven Ward, Zachary Bezold, Matt Freund, and Christopher Jones.
Freud placed second in the boys 200 Yard freestyle with a final time of 1:47.33, Alexa Petrie placed second in the girls 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.16.
Ward took second place in the boys 50-yard freestyle with a final time of 22.21. Placing first in the boys 100-yard butterfly event was Freud with a final time of 52.35 and taking third in the girls 100-yard freestyle event with a time of 56.10 was Petrie.
With a time of 49.15, Ward took second in the boys 100-yard freestyle, while Bezold took second place in the boys 500-yard freestyle event with a final time of 5:03.17.
Kittatinny and Newton Lenape Valley tied for second place in the girls 200-yard freestyle relay. The Braves on the team in order of relay appearance were Phoebe Pope, Sydney Mills, Emma Church, and Petrie.
The team of Freud, Jones, Bezold, and Ward took second place in the boys 200-yard freestyle event with a final time of 1:33.85. Pope took second in the girls 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:02.23 and Mills took third with a time of 1:02.94.
Bezold came out on top on the boys 100-yard breaststroke event with a time of 1:02.60 and the team of Andrew Carlson, Will Vetter, Chris Pellinger, and Andrew Colligan took third place in the final event of the day; the boys 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:48.02.
