A Lansdale man allegedly smeared his own feces on a jail cell camera at Lansdale Police Department after he was arrested for alleged public drunkenness Thursday morning, police said.
Police said Steven Vandergrift, 28, of the 600 block of North Broad Street, was arrested after 12:30 a.m. Thursday for refusing to leave Montella's Sports Bar and Pub and smashing a pint glass in the middle of Broad Street.
He was taken in on public drunkenness for his alleged bloodshot eyes, being unsteady and having the odor of alcohol, police said. Vandergrift blew a .20 percent on a portable breath test, police said.
After being jailed, Vandergrift, police said, tried to flood the jail cell by stuffing a shirt and blanket in a toilet and also allegedly punched and kicked the cell bars and camera. Shortly after 6:15 a.m. Thursday, Vandergrift then reached into his anus, grabbed feces and smeared it on the camera, police said.
Vandergrift is charged with vandalism, public drunkenness and disorderly conduct, per court records. A summons was issued against Vandergrift for a June 3 preliminary hearing in Lansdale District Court.
