After 48 years in business, Mariano's Tavern on Broad Street in Hatfield Township is closing its doors for good on Dec. 31.

According to Jordan Mariano, the tavern has remained in the Mariano family all those 48 years at the same location.

Jordan said his parents and owners Faust and Kathleen Mariano thank all of their customers for a wonderful ride.

All specials and business hours remain until Dec. 31.

The last Eagles Sunday is Dec. 28 at 12:30 p.m. Karaoke continues every Saturday at 9:30 p.m. with Larry the Weasel.

“We will continue to operate with all usual food, specials, alcoholic beverages, etc. until at least the end of the year. As you know, we have been at the same location, same family for 48 years,” Kathleen Mariano told TAP into North Penn in November in an e-mail.

“Faust and I are going to retire, so if this property is to continue as a restaurant (BYOB or otherwise), it will be up to someone else. We have had a great time serving our customers over the years,” she wrote.

Montgomery Township Supervisors on Nov. 24 approved a liquor license transfer for Grub Burger Bar from Mariano’s Tavern in order to open up a restaurant at Montgomery Mall in Montgomery Township at the location where Salsa’s and Ruby Tuesday existed.

GBB NE Coast, LLC, a subsidiary of GBB Hospitality Group, LLC, operates seven Grub Burger Bars in three states. If successful, the Grub Burger Bar at Montgomery Mall would be the second one in Pennsylvania. A Grub Burger Bar is poised to open in Willow Grove on North York Road.

According to attorney Mark Kozar, in a letter to Montgomery Township Planning and Zoning Director Bruce Shoupe, no Montgomery Township liquor license is available for purchase at this time, and thus, it has entered into an agreement to purchase a liquor license from Mariano’s Tavern owners Faust and Kathleen Mariano.

Kozar describes Grub Burger Bar as a “family-friendly, relaxed casual” restaurant that offers a variety of hamburgers and cheeseburgers, turkey burgers, chicken burgers and fish burgers, and hand-spun milkshakes.
