SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ -- Two high school students were struck by motor vehicle crossing Raritan Road near Union County Vo-Tech on Wednesday afternoon just after 12:30 p.m.

Fanwood Rescue 579 was first on scene, followed quickly by Union County OEM EMS, and the Scotch Plains and Fanwood police, fire and rescue squads. The teens were transported to University Hospital Newark. Their injuries were not life-threatening.

"Today could have been horrific. In the end, it wasn't," said Colleen Gialanella, principal at the Academy for Information Technology and Deputy Mayor of Scotch Plains Township in a Facebook post. "An exceptional job by Scotch Plains Police and the Fanwood and Scotch Plains Rescue Squads today."
