SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ - The Barclays 2015 FedExCup Playoffs are headed back to our area, with the highly anticipated event teeing off at the Plainfield Country Club later this month with 125 of world's most elite professional golfers will compete in the prestigious first-round playoff event from Aug. 25 through Aug. 30,

Located on Woodland Avenue in Edison, the Plainfield Club is consistently ranked among the top-ranked classic courses in the United States. It last hosted the Barclays in 2011 and has been the host to two U.S. National championships — the 1978 U.S. Amateur and the 1987 U.S. Women’s Open – as well as a number of state and regional championships.

“We’re very excited to be back ... This is our first time returning to Plainfield Country Club since the 2011 tournament, when Dustin Johnson won a shortened event due to Hurricane Irene,” Peter Mele, vice president and executive director for The Barclays, said. “We look forward to giving the golf fans a chance to cheer on the best players in the world as they compete on one of the most classic courses in the country."

The event's first few days – Tuesday Aug. 25 to Wednesday Aug. 26 – are closed to the general public to allow warm-up rounds for professional golfers and to host several invitation-only events that may attract 8,000-10,000 attendees. The four days of actual competition – Thursday, Aug. 27 to Sunday, Aug. 30 – are expected to attract more than 130,000 visitors.

Since their inception in 2007, the FedExCup Playoffs have continued to grow in popularity and are scheduled for more than 18 hours of live television coverage on CBS Sports and the Golf Channel. Through affiliates, coverage will be available to more than 890 million household in 32 languages, across 224 countries and territories. SiriusXM Radio will provide exclusive play-by-play coverage to more than 27 million North American subscribers.

With the prospect of a $10 million windfall at the end of the four-tournament swing, the finest players in the land have certainly caught on as well as golf fans across the country. The event is expected to have a significant beneficial and far-reaching economic impact on the surrounding areas across Central New Jersey. In addition to raising more than $1.5 million for New Jersey-New York area charities, players, fans, spectators and their families visiting from around the world are expected to generate an estimated $30–$35 million by patronizing area hotels, restaurants, shopping malls and retail centers, and visiting local tourism destinations.

Founded in 1890 as the Hillside Tennis Club, the historic Plainfield Country Club is best known for its original Donald Ross-designed golf course, which dates to 1921. Over the past 10 years, the club has undergone an extensive restoration and renovation program under the direction on architect Gil Hanse, involving the removal of over 1,200 trees, the rediscovery of a number of lost bunkers covered in prior years, expansion of 16 greens and the lengthening of 12 tees to reflect the modern equipment and skills.
