Plainfield, NJ – In a concert entitled Simply Schubert, the Crescent Choral Society, under the direction of F. Allen Artz, III, will perform several sacred works by Franz Schubert on Saturday, April 9th at 7:00 pm as part of Crescent Concerts’ 34th season. The Choral Society will present these masterpieces in the splendor of the neo-Gothic Crescent Avenue Presbyterian Church in Plainfield.

Schubert chose to use a German translation, rather than the traditional Latin text, when he composed his Stabat Mater for choir, Soprano, Tenor, and Bass, and Crescent Choral Society will be performing this piece in German as he intended. The Choral Society will also be performing Schubert’s Intende Voci – a beautiful prayer for Tenor Soloist and choir – and his powerful Magnificat – a wonderful arrangement of Mary’s prayer. In addition, the women and the men of the choir will be breaking out to sing The Lord is My Shepherd and Liebe, respectively.

The professional soloists for this concert will be Marc Andrew Day, Tami Petty, and Phillip Cheah. Tenor Marc Day has a Master’s in Music from Manhattan School of Music, has performed with the San Francisco Opera, and is a member of many ensembles in the greater New York City Metropolitan Area. Tami Petty is an award winning soprano who has performed extensively throughout the United States at venues such as Carnegie Hall and Alice Tully Hall. Bass Phillip Cheah maintains an active professional life as a conductor, vocalist, pianist, and teacher, and has performed as a soloist Church of Saint Luke in the Fields, The Glass Menagerie, the Crescent Choral Society, and the Canby Singers.
