NORTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – Daniel Duncan, an eighth grader at North Plainfield Middle School, was recently named a 2015-2016 recipient of the highly competitive Paul Robeson Youth Achievement Award in recognition of his excellence in academics, athletics and service.

Presented by the Paul Robeson Institute for Ethics, Leadership, and Social Justice at Raritan Valley Community College, the Paul Robeson Youth Achievement Awards Program is designed to reward African American students who attend school or live in either Somerset or Hunterdon counties who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement and service. Recipients are chosen by a Selection Committee based on completed application, nomination form/letter, essay and transcript with awards are presented annually in the following categories: Scholarship (3.5 GPA minimum); Community Service (3.0 GPA minimum); Performing Arts (3.0 GPA minimum); and Athletics (3.0 GPA minimum) with the Special Renaissance Award given for accomplishments in all categories (3.0 GPA minimum).

Daniel is involved in the Mentoring and Leadership Equals Success (M.A.L.E.S) program with Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Theta Psi Lambda Chapter, as well as the Somerset County Youth Coalition, North Plainfield Middle School Student Council, Track and Field, Recreation Baseball, and the National Junior Honor Society.
